28. Dealing With Haters

You’ve seen the type. No matter what someone achieves, there is always someone in the crowd talking smack. If someone is successful, it’s because they always got a lucky break, or they inherited their wealth, or they must have done something unethical. The person that gets the promotion at work did it by sucking up, kissing ass, or they’re a sellout. A celebrity must have slept their way to those roles. A sports hero either had good genetics, used steroids, or cheated.

Someone once said “There are two ways to have the tallest building in town. Build the tallest building and keep working on it, or go around and tear other buildings down”. Unfortunately, many people decide to spend their time tearing other buildings (people) down.

Dealing with these types requires you see them as who they are. Haters. Plain and simple. These people will never do anything productive with their lives, so they spend time talking about others. The only way they can feel good about themselves is to bring other people down.

Sometimes it’s not just strangers who do this. Often they are your friends or co-workers. Sometimes, haters can have the same last name as you!

Best advice is to love them from a distance. Don’t let anyone talk you out of your dreams and goals. If you’re trying to do something to better your life, then protect your mindset. You wouldn’t let anyone come into your house and throw trash all over your living room, would you? Of course not. Then don’t let people throw their garbage into your mind.

The slogan “Keep Calm And Carry On” was originally produced by the British government during the Second World War. My advice to you is the same. Expect resistance and expect attackers. It is actually a sign you are going in the right direction.
